About
I approach architecture through the lens of craft. My years as a timber framer, carpenter, and project lead taught me how buildings come together—running job sites, raising frames, solving problems in real time. I learned the logic of joinery, the behavior of materials, the rhythm of building, and the unforgiving honesty of construction. This foundation, as both maker and designer, shapes how I approach every project, with a builder's hands and a designer's eye, understanding not just what works and what doesn't, but why.
My formal study at the San Francisco Institute of Architecture, where I earned a Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Ecological Design, expanded that foundation. That education took root across different soils—from projects along the shores of Lake Superior to work in the San Francisco Bay Area, each landscape shaping my understanding of climate and context. I learned to think systematically about building performance and developed an architectural approach rooted in place, where the logic of the vernacular informs the contemporary.
Now based in Madison, Wisconsin, I specialize in residential design that honors the specific: the site, the climate, the client's story, the builder's expertise. My focus on Passive House principles, natural materials, energy-conscious design, and timber framing reflects a commitment to buildings that bridge old wisdom and new science. My projects embrace varying scales—from the intimate ritual of a sauna to the expansive vision of a multigenerational home. What remains constant is my commitment to collaboration, working alongside clients to shape their aspirations into buildable reality and creating documentation that builders trust from foundation to finish.
