BASTU

A handcrafted Finnish sauna on the Bayfield Peninsula in Northern Wisconsin. Built from dovetailed logs using traditional Finnish log construction, the structure reflects methods brought to the region by Finnish immigrants, with restrained references to Japanese roof joinery and a Shou Sugi Ban–finished sill log.

The compact plan includes a changing room that serves as guest quarters. The massing is simple and direct — stacked timber walls, expressed joinery, and a steep metal roof set on a concrete plinth.

Location: Bayfield, Wisconsin
