OLD KENNEDY
A fully off-grid home set high above the shores of Lake Superior, oriented toward views of Madeline Island. Built on the site of a former farmstead, the design recalls the simple gabled forms of the original buildings.
Constructed to Passive House standards, the home is enclosed by 16-inch double-stud walls and R-9 tilt/turn windows, forming a robust, airtight thermal envelope. A ground-mounted solar array provides power.
A white ash timber frame supports locally sourced aspen ceilings, while thermally modified tulip poplar siding, standing-seam metal roofs, and a living roof define a durable exterior assembly.
Location: Bayfield, Wisconsin
Project Type: Off-Grid Custom Residence
