RUNAWAY
A small retreat set in the woods near the shoreline of Lake Superior. The building is organized beneath a single, steep gable structured by a modern interpretation of an English cruck frame. The frame is resolved through straight timbers that express load and span with clarity. Its proportions draw from Japanese minka farmhouses and the utilitarian buildings of early Finnish settlers on the Chequamegon Peninsula.
A prefabricated SIP enclosure wraps the timber structure in a continuous, highly insulated shell. A deep porch extends the roof plane and defines the entry.
